The Wild Doc’s Approach to Tick Season in Clarksville TN
The Wild Doc’s Approach to Tick Season in Clarksville TN
Tick season is upon us! And while tick-borne illness poses a real threat in Clarksville TN, my family does not live in fear of ticks! We spend most of our time outdoors during the summer and the occasional tick bite is bound to happen. That’s why I equip my family and our land to combat this issue. The benefits of being outdoors in nature and the sunshine outweigh the cons.
Combat Ticks in Clarksville TN
First and foremost we must be doing the right things to maintain a healthy immune system! That means reducing any stressors we can. Eating a nutritious diet of healthy animal proteins, fats, organ meats, seasonal fruits, and fermented veggies. Regular chiropractic adjustments to maintain balance in the nervous system, and getting adequate rest to name a few.
Here are some specifics we use to combat ticks and reduce our risk of tick-borne illness.
ASTRAGALUS ROOT:
Astragalus is an incredible immune-supportive herb that we implement during tick season! By enhancing the body’s immune response, it can help combat tick-borne infections by boosting the production of white blood cells, stimulating the activity of natural killer cells, and increasing the secretion of cytokines. It also has antimicrobial effects.
PRESCRIBED BURNS:
Prescribed Burns are intentional fires created under specific conditions & supervision. They are used as a management tool to achieve various ecological goals, including reducing tick populations. When conducted in appropriate settings, prescribed burns can have a positive impact on tick control.
The heat and smoke generated by the burns can directly kill ticks and their eggs, while also removing the leaf litter and vegetation that provide favorable habitats for ticks. By removing these tick-friendly environments, prescribed burns disrupt the tick life cycle and limit their ability to survive and reproduce!
NON-TOXIC BUG REPELLANT:
Instead of conventional chemical bug repellants, although effective in warding off insects, can pose huge risks! Many of them contain chemicals like DEET or permethrin, which have adverse effects on our health and the environment.
When these repellants are applied near water bodies or on plants, they can contaminate the ecosystem and harm aquatic organisms or beneficial insects like bees and butterflies. Some of our favorite non-toxic bug repellents are Badger Anti-Bug, doTERRA TerraShield, and Wondercide to name a few!
